Ben Turner Claims Dramatic Vuelta a España Stage 4 Victory for INEOS Grenadiers
Ben Turner wins dramatic Vuelta a España stage for INEOS

In a breathtaking display of grit and tactical brilliance, British cyclist Ben Turner powered to a sensational victory on Stage 4 of the Vuelta a España, delivering a huge win for the INEOS Grenadiers team.

The 24-year-old from Yorkshire triumphed from a day-long breakaway, holding off a frantic chase from the peloton in a nail-biting finale into Laguardia. Turner outsprinted his breakaway companions in the final metres to seize the biggest win of his professional career to date.

A Gutsy Breakaway Pays Off

Turner was part of a large 31-rider group that broke clear early in the 160km stage from Andorra la Vella. As the stage progressed over its challenging terrain, the group's cooperation saw them build a formidable advantage that the main general classification contenders, including race leader Remco Evenepoel, initially seemed content to let go.

As the kilometres ticked down and the gap began to fall, the breakaway's cohesion fractured, setting the stage for a dramatic and tactical finale on the twisting run-in.

Emotional Triumph for Turner and INEOS

Speaking after the stage, an elated and emotional Turner dedicated the win to his team and family. "This is what I train for, these moments," he stated. "To get a Grand Tour stage win for this team is just incredible. We believed we could do it from the break today, and to actually pull it off is a dream come true."

The victory marks a significant return to form for the INEOS Grenadiers squad at this year's Vuelta, proving their aggressive racing strategy can yield results.

GC Standings Unchanged

While the breakaway contested the stage win, the main peloton containing favourites like Evenepoel, Primoz Roglic, and Jonas Vingegaard rolled across the line over ten minutes later, meaning there were no changes to the overall general classification standings.

All eyes now turn to Stage 5, a more demanding route that is expected to see the GC battle ignite properly for the first time in this year's race.
