Middlesex County Cricket Club is set to embark on a new chapter after securing the necessary funding to develop a permanent home in Uxbridge. The move will see the club depart from their historic association with Lord's Cricket Ground, where they have played for over a century.
The decision comes after years of financial strain and logistical challenges at Lord's, which is primarily owned by Marylebone Cricket Club (MCC). Middlesex has long sought greater control over their matchday revenue and facilities, which the new Uxbridge ground is expected to provide.
A New Era for Middlesex Cricket
The proposed venue, located near Brunel University, will feature modern training facilities, improved fan amenities, and greater commercial opportunities. The club has emphasised that the move will strengthen ties with the local community and enhance grassroots cricket development in the area.
"This is a transformative moment for Middlesex Cricket," said a club spokesperson. "Uxbridge offers us the chance to build a sustainable future while maintaining our proud traditions."
Why Leave Lord's?
Despite its prestige, Lord's has not always been an ideal home for Middlesex. As tenants rather than owners, the club has faced restrictions on scheduling and revenue generation. The new ground will allow Middlesex to host more matches, including potential international fixtures, and expand their commercial partnerships.
Local authorities have welcomed the development, citing economic benefits for Uxbridge and surrounding areas. Construction is expected to begin in early 2026, with the first matches scheduled for the 2028 season.
