Mark Wood Declared Fit for Ashes After Fearsome Perth Bowling Session
Mark Wood fit for first Ashes Test after rapid bowling

England's pace attack has received a major boost as Mark Wood pronounced himself ready for the first Ashes Test following a fearsome bowling display at Perth Stadium.

Rigorous Session Puts Injury Fears to Rest

Emerging from a rigorous training session, the 35-year-old fast bowler confirmed his fitness for Friday's crucial match. Wood effectively dismissed concerns about a recent hamstring issue by delivering a ferocious half-hour spell at maximum velocity.

Despite not playing for nine months following left knee surgery, and with his last Test appearance dating back to August 2024, Wood demonstrated his readiness. Although his left leg was heavily strapped, it didn't prevent him from reaching top speed against his fellow England batsmen.

Teammates React to Wood's Fearsome Pace

Wicketkeeper Jamie Smith provided a first-hand account of Wood's intimidating performance, stating: 'He was absolutely rapid today. I can tell you that first hand.' Smith added, 'He's definitely one to avoid on the netting list. He was near enough full tilt, so it's good signs for us.'

Fellow paceman Josh Tongue also endorsed Wood's condition, commenting: 'If his body's all good and the management think he's good to go, I don't see why not.'

England's Pace Arsenal for Perth

Wood could feature in a five-man England pace attack, with the Perth pitch expected to strongly favour fast bowling. England enters the five-match series with a fully-fit bowling arsenal, captained by Ben Stokes and supported by Jofra Archer, Gus Atkinson, and Brydon Carse.

In keeping with their style under Stokes' leadership, England could announce their team as early as Wednesday, two days before the Test begins.
