Former Australia cricketer David Warner has been charged with drink-driving after being arrested in Sydney on Sunday. The 39-year-old opening batter, who retired from international cricket in 2024, was stopped during a random breath testing operation in Maroubra.
According to New South Wales Police, a van allegedly stopped short of the testing site and parked. Officers approached the vehicle and subjected the driver to a roadside test, which returned a positive result. Warner was arrested and taken to Maroubra Police Station, where a second test allegedly recorded a reading of 0.104, exceeding the legal limit.
Warner was issued a Field Court Attendance Notice for a middle-range prescribed concentration of alcohol (PCA) offence. He is due to appear before Downing Centre Local Court on May 7, 2026. The PSL final, in which Warner's team Karachi Kings may compete, takes place on May 3 in Lahore.
Warner, a long-term Ashes antagonist to England, played for Australia between 2009 and 2024, winning two ODI World Cups, one T20 World Cup, and three Ashes series. He scored 49 international centuries and is regarded as one of Australia's finest openers. He currently captains Karachi Kings in the Pakistan Super League and had been granted time at home over Easter.
