A British broadcast engineer who was working on Indian Premier League cricket coverage has been found deceased in his Mumbai hotel room, with authorities stating they do not suspect foul play in the incident.
Discovery at Trident Hotel
Jan William Langford, aged 76, was discovered unresponsive in his room at the Trident Hotel in Mumbai on Monday, March 30. The engineer had been collaborating with the Board of Control for Cricket in India and had checked into the hotel on March 24.
Events Leading to the Discovery
Langford reportedly returned to his accommodation after attending a match between the Mumbai Indians and the Kolkata Raiders at the Wankhede Stadium on March 29. The following day, when repeated calls to his room went unanswered, hotel staff became concerned and decided to investigate.
Alarmed employees used a master key to enter the room, where they found Langford lying on the floor. The hotel's in-house doctor was immediately summoned and pronounced the engineer dead at the scene.
Police Investigation and Statements
Nilesh Bagul, a senior police officer at Marine Drive Police Station, provided details of the incident. "The hotel receptionist tried to contact him and called his room but there was no response. They waited and later decided to check on him," Bagul explained.
Langford was subsequently transported to Bombay Hospital, where doctors confirmed his passing. The officer confirmed that the British High Commission had been notified and Langford's next of kin had been contacted.
No Suspicious Circumstances
While the official cause of death has not been publicly confirmed, police sources indicated that nothing suspicious was found during the post-mortem examination. Authorities have stated they do not suspect any foul play in connection with the engineer's death.

"The IPL Governing Council and all stakeholders involved express their deepest condolences on the untimely demise of Mr Jan William Langford, a dedicated broadcast engineer, who was an integral part of our broadcast operations," the statement read.

A spokesperson for the UK Foreign Office confirmed they had been providing support to Langford's family. "We supported the family of a British national who has died in India and were in contact with the local authorities," the spokesperson told The Sun newspaper.
