Bayern Munich head coach Vincent Kompany has been taken to hospital by air ambulance from the club's training ground, according to a German report.
The Belgian has been battling a virus that left him uncertain to be in the dugout for Bayern's midweek Champions League clash with Arsenal. He missed the final training session before the match but did take his place on the bench, saying he felt better after the 2-2 draw.
Air Ambulance to Munich Hospital
Bild reports that Kompany was airlifted from Bayern's Sabener Strasse training base to a Munich hospital. The former Manchester City captain first began feeling the effects of the virus ahead of last weekend's 6-1 Bundesliga win over RB Leipzig.
He delivered his usual pre-match team talk but then had to lie on a couch to recover. The infection has reportedly caused issues with old scar tissue from previous injuries, making it difficult for Kompany to walk up and down stairs.
Kompany's Comments After Arsenal Draw
Speaking after the Arsenal match, Kompany told BILD at the press conference: "As a coach, you always want to do everything and accomplish everything. I caught a pretty nasty virus last week, and of course I didn't listen to my body, and then at some point my body said: Stop now!"
On Wednesday, he was back on the sidelines against Arsenal, having been touch and go for the game.
