Heavyweight boxing legend Tyson Fury is being urged by his own brother to abandon plans for a dramatic ring return and instead focus on his family.
Family First Plea from Brother Tommy
Tyson Fury's younger brother, Tommy Fury, has publicly advised the former two-time world champion to remain in retirement. The heartfelt plea comes as the 37-year-old 'Gypsy King' appears to be gearing up for another comeback, having spent recent weeks training in Thailand.
Fury initially announced his retirement in January 2025, following back-to-back defeats to his long-time rival, the Ukrainian unified champion Oleksandr Usyk. However, he has since performed a major U-turn on that decision.
"At the end of the day, I would love to see him retire and stay retired," Tommy Fury told BoxNation. He emphasised that his older sibling has nothing left to prove in the sport, having won every major belt and earned vast wealth.
"He has got young kids. Enjoy them!" Tommy added, stating that "health is your wealth" and warning of the dangers in the heavyweight division.
Fury's Comeback Plans and Potential Opponents
Despite his brother's counsel, Tyson Fury seems determined to fight again. He recently revealed his ambition to return to the ring in the first quarter of 2026, which would mark a layoff of up to 16 months.
"I am really looking forward to it. I have been away for a while, but I am back now," Fury said. "Let's see if I have still got it."
The heavyweight icon has been active on social media, eyeing a three-man hit list that includes a coveted trilogy fight with Oleksandr Usyk. The list also features British rivals Anthony Joshua and the current British champion, Fabio Wardley.
Wardley was quick to respond, expressing keen interest in a potential blockbuster bout. "It was good because he was already on mine," Wardley told Sky Sports. "I'd be extremely keen to see if he's genuine about it or not."
The Road Back: A Tune-Up Fight First?
Before any mega-fight, speculation suggests Fury may first take a tune-up contest. His promoter, Frank Warren, hinted that a bout against the heavy-hitting Arslanbek Makhmudov could be a possibility to shake off ring rust.
"Maybe, we may do that [Makhmudov fight]," Warren revealed when asked about the potential match-up. He described Fury as a "very intelligent guy" who knows what he needs to do to prepare for a major summer fight.
Fury has spent much of the past year filming the second season of his Netflix documentary series, 'At Home with the Furys.' However, the fire to compete clearly still burns, setting the stage for a potentially tumultuous and headline-grabbing return to the sport he once dominated.
