Sean O'Malley Speaks Out in Defence of UFC Amidst Fighter Criticism

UFC bantamweight star Sean O'Malley has publicly defended the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) following a wave of criticism from high-profile former and current fighters, including Ronda Rousey, Jon Jones, and Conor McGregor. In a recent YouTube appearance, O'Malley expressed his views on the ongoing disputes, suggesting that these legendary athletes should show more appreciation for the organisation that helped build their careers.

Ronda Rousey's UFC Criticism and Netflix Comeback

Ronda Rousey, the former UFC women's bantamweight champion, is set to make her mixed martial arts comeback on May 16 in an event streamed exclusively on Netflix. She will face Gina Carano in what marks her first MMA fight in nearly a decade. Prior to this announcement, Rousey had been in negotiations with the UFC for a potential return, but the deal ultimately fell through.

Following her signing with Jake Paul's Most Valuable Promotions (MVP), Rousey launched a verbal attack on the UFC, accusing the promotion of underpaying athletes and failing to organise the best possible fights. The 39-year-old fighter has not retracted her comments, recently targeting Hunter Campbell, the UFC's chief business officer, in a social media post.

Jon Jones and Conor McGregor's Grievances

Jon Jones, widely regarded as one of the greatest fighters in UFC history, has also expressed frustration with the organisation. He was reportedly angered after being overlooked for the UFC's planned visit to the White House in June, leading him to request his release from the promotion. Similarly, Conor McGregor, the UFC's biggest star, has voiced his own complaints about the organisation in recent months, as reported by All Out Fighting.

Sean O'Malley's Response and Call for Gratitude

In his YouTube comments, Sean O'Malley addressed the criticism from Rousey, Jones, and McGregor, stating, "It's crazy, you see all these top guys having issues with the UFC, and Ronda obviously is not in the UFC anymore, but talking s*** about it." He acknowledged their right to speak up if they feel unfairly treated but emphasised the importance of gratitude.

O'Malley questioned, "Who would Conor, Jones, and Ronda be without the UFC? Could they have been successful in other ventures? Yes. Could they have made as much money? Probably not." He added, "So it's weird. I get where they're coming from, too, if they think they're being treated unfair, speak up. One way I see it, but then it's like also you've got to be grateful for what you got from the UFC, from the business."

Netflix Event and Further Developments

The upcoming Netflix MMA event has garnered significant attention, with fighters like Nate Diaz, Mike Perry, and Francis Ngannou confirmed to participate. After Diaz's inclusion was announced, Rousey took another swipe at the UFC on social media, posting, "Welcome to the revolution Nate Diaz, Mike Perry. It's the FIGHTERS vs the establishment - and we're gunna win! May 16 only on Netflix. PS Hunter Campbell p****d off the wrong b****. I'm coming for your job motherf***er."

This ongoing conflict highlights the tensions between fighters and the UFC leadership, with O'Malley positioning himself as a defender of the promotion amidst the controversy. As the May 16 event approaches, further developments are expected in this verbal war between the athletes and the organisation.
