Gervonta Davis, a three-division world champion, was arrested in Miami on Wednesday after a two-week manhunt. Police issued a warrant accusing him of battery, false imprisonment and attempted kidnapping following an alleged domestic violence incident last October.
Miami Gardens police said Davis was apprehended in the city's Design District after a multi-day surveillance operation involving the US Marshals Fugitive Task Force. He was booked into the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center late Wednesday night.
According to police, the incident occurred on 27 October at a strip club in Miami Gardens, where a woman who had previously been in a relationship with Davis was working as a VIP cocktail server. Investigators allege Davis confronted her, forcibly took her into a back room, assaulted her, and then escorted her outside. A police report states he grabbed her by the hair and throat before releasing her in a parking area. The woman reported visible bruising to her arm.
The woman told investigators she met Davis in 2022 and had an intimate relationship with him for several months in 2025, ending about a month before the alleged incident. She has also filed a civil lawsuit against Davis, alleging battery, false imprisonment and kidnapping. Her attorney stated that the police investigation findings align with the civil complaint.
Davis, 31, was training for a bout with Jake Paul scheduled for November but was removed from the card after the lawsuit became public. His most recent fight was a controversial draw with Lamont Roach Jr in March. The WBA stripped him of his lightweight title over the weekend, citing the legal case and inactivity.
This arrest adds to Davis's history of legal issues, including a 2023 hit-and-run conviction in Maryland. It remains unclear how the new charges will affect his probation or future fights. Miami Gardens police said the investigation is ongoing.
