Boxing Brothers Birchall Forge Path Through Chaos With Unbreakable Bond
Birchall Brothers' Boxing Bond Forged in Family Chaos

William Birchall has revealed the profound brotherly bond that fuels his boxing ambitions, as he and his two younger siblings strive to leave their mark on the sport following a tumultuous upbringing. The Birchall brothers—William, Nelson, and Leighton—have transformed childhood chaos into a disciplined pursuit of professional boxing glory.

A Warning Sign and a Whirlwind of Activity

Visitors to the Birchall family home were once greeted by a sign reading, "Welcome to the madhouse." This was no idle warning. William recalls a childhood filled with relentless energy and sparring sessions that began in their living room, complete with gum shields and full kits. "My mum's got videos on her iPad of us sparring in the living room," he said. "We had gum shields in, the full shebang, sometimes we would do it in our kits like we were actually fighting."

No Holding Back: A Brother's Tough Love

William, the eldest, never softened his approach with his younger brothers, regardless of their size. He believed that if they could withstand his intensity—being several years older and a stone heavier—they would find competition with peers far easier. "I told them if they can take it from me, their big brother, who's a few years older than them and a stone heavier, then when they get in with someone their own size it's going to be a walk in the park," he explained.

This rigorous training paid off as Nelson and Leighton grew older. William observed them implementing techniques he had drilled into them during their amateur fights. "When they fought in the amateurs I'd be the only one they'd ever listen to," he noted. "It got to the point where the coach would tell me to scream because they'd only hear me in the ring."

A Trust Forged in Youth

The brothers' bond, built on mutual trust and belief, has been a constant since their earliest days. "We all trust and believe in each other and it’s been like that from when we were really little," William said. "We've just got a really good bond." This connection has been crucial as they navigate the challenges of professional boxing together.

Sacrifices and Shared Dreams

Now 25, William is set for his fourth professional fight on the undercard of Nick Ball's world title defence in Liverpool. The brothers, who left education before high school, continue to live together, fully committed to their boxing aspirations. William is determined to ensure their parents' immense sacrifices are not in vain.

"I don't know how my mum and dad are not divorced," he admitted, reflecting on the family's dedication. "We'd be nowhere without them; they don't go on family holidays, it's just boxing, boxing, boxing. Our two sisters have not really had much, it's just been us boys with the boxing."

Early Discipline and Relentless Support

The Birchalls began training like professionals at the age of 13. Their mother's unwavering support was pivotal, as she drove them from Morecambe to Blackpool—a 45-minute journey—multiple times daily for training sessions. "She used to do 200 miles a day," William recalled, highlighting the family's collective effort.

For William, boxing is not just a sport but a way of life. "Boxing is all I've ever really known," he said. "I might never win anything but all I can do is get in there and support my brothers along the way." This sentiment underscores the deep-rooted commitment that drives the Birchall brothers forward, united by their past and focused on a future in the ring.
