Tartan Army's Oldest Fan, 94, Heads to US for Fourth World Cup

Moira Brown, the Tartan Army's oldest fan at the age of 94, has made her way to the United States to cheer on Scotland at her fourth World Cup. The devoted supporter flew to the US after securing tickets to all three group match games.

A Lifelong Scotland Supporter

Moira, a mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, attended her first Scotland game 80 years ago. Last Wednesday, she traveled to the US to see Scotland compete on the world stage once again. This marks her fourth World Cup, having previously attended finals in Germany in 1974, Spain in 1982, and France in 1998.

Excitement Builds for Group Matches

After watching Scotland take on Haiti, she is now gearing up to see Steve Clarke's side face Morocco and Brazil. Moira said: "This is my fourth World Cup — Germany, Spain, France and now America — and I made sure I got tickets to all three games, of course. I've never not enjoyed a single trip to see Scotland. I've always enjoyed the experience. Before I left I had no firm predictions after seeing Scotland in Germany, but I'm just glad we are in it. I'd love to see them go on to the next stage."

From Coatbridge to the World Stage

Born in Coatbridge, Lanarkshire, and now living in Glasgow, Moira first watched Scotland play an international match in 1946, just after the Second World War, when they beat England 1-0 at Hampden. The former head teacher left Scotland three days before the opening game against Haiti.

She is accompanied by her friend Ian, 70, and during their US trip, the pair plan to visit Moira's family in Canada for three days before returning to Boston for the match against Morocco. They will then travel to New York to rest and recover before flying to Miami for the final group-stage match against five-time world champions Brazil.

Packed with Scotland Gear

Moira turned up in the US with her suitcase fully packed with nothing but Scotland-themed gear. She said: "I don't know when I'm coming back yet — it depends on how we get on. I travel with a young English man who is 70, and I have done since 1983 when I met him on a trip to Estonia. He has no Scottish connections other than deciding, at the age of eight, to support Scotland. If we were as good as we were against Denmark, we could take on anyone. I don't take anything with me that isn't Scotland gear. I mostly wear navy and blue. I've got the salmon pink one, but I'm not really a pink person, despite being a girl. I also got the new Tartan Army baseball-style strip, so I'm all set."
