A four-year-old British boy has tragically died after falling into a swimming pool at a holiday home near the Costa del Sol in Spain. The incident occurred at a rural property in the village of Periana, located in the La Axarquia region, approximately 30 miles from Malaga.
Emergency services were alerted around 8:30 am local time. Police, paramedics, and a medical helicopter were dispatched to the scene. Despite their rapid response, the young boy could not be revived and was pronounced dead at the property.
The Civil Guard has launched an investigation into the child's death. However, sources indicate that there is currently no evidence suggesting foul play. Local reports describe the boy as the only child of a British couple who had just arrived at the farmhouse the previous day. One source stated, 'Investigators are still awaiting the results of the post-mortem but it appears to be a tragic accident.'
Community Mourns
Periana Council issued a heartfelt statement to the bereaved parents: 'Today is a deeply sad day for our town. On behalf of Periana Town Council, we would like to extend our deepest condolences to the family and loved ones of the child who has passed away. There are no words that can ease such immense grief, but we do wish to convey to you all our love, support and solidarity at this very difficult time. The whole of Periana shares your sadness and stands with you in your grief at such a painful and unjust loss.'
Mayoress Meritxell Vizueta confirmed that she and a councillor had visited the property to offer comfort to the family.
