Trump in ‘Excellent’ Health Despite Leg Swelling and Hand Bruising, White House Says

Donald Trump remains in “excellent” health despite experiencing “lower leg swelling” and “benign” hand bruising, according to a memo released by the White House. The memo, from physician Dr Sean Barbabella, stated that the president is “fully fit to carry out all duties” of the presidency.

The examination, conducted during Trump’s fourth hospital visit in his second term, found “strong cardiac, pulmonary, neurological and overall physical function”. The memo noted “slight lower leg swelling … with improvement from last year” and described hand bruising as “common” and “consistent with minor soft tissue irritation related to frequent handshaking in the setting of aspirin use for cardiovascular prevention”.

Trump, who turns 80 on 14 June, is the oldest person ever elected to the White House. His visit to Walter Reed National Military Medical Center on Tuesday was his third in 13 months, prompting scrutiny after past photos showed swollen ankles, bruised hands and a blotchy neck.

The memo did not address a skin treatment on Trump’s neck in March or mention a repeat of an MRI exam he underwent in October. It reported normal cardiac function and a “comprehensive neurological examination demonstrated normal mental status”, including screenings for depression and anxiety. Trump’s height was listed as 6ft 3in (190cm) and weight as 238lbs (108kg).

Preventive advice included guidance on diet, low-dose aspirin, increased physical activity and continued weight loss. Trump had earlier said “everything checked out perfectly” after his hospital visit.
