US President Donald Trump sparked health concerns on Thursday after he appeared to doze off during a White House conference. A video shared by journalist Aaron Rupar shows Trump sitting back in his chair, shutting his eyes, reopening them, and then shutting them again. The clip has garnered over 70,000 views within an hour of being posted.
This is not the first time Trump has been seen sleeping during an event. In May, he was criticised for appearing slumped in his chair during a Memorial Day speech at Arlington Cemetery, sitting beside Vice President JD Vance with his eyes closed. In March, he was accused of closing his eyes during an emotional speech, and earlier, viewers claimed he fell asleep standing up while live on Fox News during a Medal of Honor ceremony.
Trump’s health has been a recurring topic. In 2018, his personal physician stated that he slept only four to five hours a night, well below the recommended seven to nine hours for men his age. The White House recently had to issue a statement after Trump failed to appear in public for a week, fuelling speculation about his health. He resurfaced on Wednesday to sign an executive order, following his fourth medical evaluation of the year, which he described as 'extremely good'.
