Following a disastrous set of local elections for Labour, speculation is mounting over who could replace Keir Starmer as party leader and prime minister. Here are the main contenders.
Andy Burnham
The Mayor of Greater Manchester has been hinting at a leadership challenge for months. However, he is currently unable to launch an official bid as he is not a sitting MP.
Angela Rayner
Rayner resigned from Starmer's cabinet last September after it emerged she had underpaid stamp duty on her Brighton flat. She has been named as one of the MPs most likely to stage a coup against him.
Wes Streeting
The current Health Secretary is seen as the most likely to replace Starmer from within his own cabinet. He is understood to have enough backing from Labour MPs to launch a leadership bid.
Ed Miliband
Over ten years on from leading Labour to defeat at the 2015 general election, Miliband is back in the mix. He has become increasingly critical of the government following the Mandelson scandal.
Keir Starmer
There may not be a replacement at all. Starmer could continue as prime minister, and he has defiantly stated that he has no plans to walk away despite this week's nightmare local elections for Labour.
