Scottish Secretary Ian Murray Slams Donald Trump Over 'Disgraceful' Comments on Keir Starmer
Scottish Secretary slams Trump over Starmer remarks

Scottish Secretary Ian Murray has launched a scathing attack on former US President Donald Trump, branding his comments about Labour leader Keir Starmer as "disgraceful" and "unacceptable."

Murray, the only Labour MP in Scotland, accused Trump of attempting to interfere in UK politics after the ex-president criticised Starmer's leadership during a recent interview.

"These remarks are completely out of order," Murray stated. "For a foreign former leader to attack our elected officials in such a manner is utterly inappropriate."

The row erupted after Trump questioned Starmer's ability to handle international affairs, particularly regarding Brexit negotiations. The Scottish Secretary was quick to defend his party leader, insisting Starmer had "proven competence" in dealing with complex political matters.

Murray's intervention comes at a sensitive time for UK-US relations, with the general election approaching. Political analysts suggest such foreign interventions could influence voter perceptions, though Murray dismissed any potential impact.

"The British public will make up their own minds based on policies, not the opinions of foreign politicians," he added.

This isn't the first time Trump has courted controversy with remarks about UK politicians. His previous comments about various British leaders have frequently sparked diplomatic tensions.

The Scottish Secretary's robust defence of Starmer underscores the Labour Party's determination to present a united front ahead of the upcoming election campaign.
