Police are searching for a man who called for the assassination of Prime Minister Keir Starmer during Saturday's far-right 'Unite the Kingdom' rally in London. The Metropolitan Police said further arrests are expected following the protest, which was organised by the activist known as Tommy Robinson.
Scotland Yard estimated that between 110,000 and 150,000 people attended the event. Twenty-four people have been arrested for offences including common assault and violent disorder, and 26 police officers were injured in clashes. The oldest person arrested was 58, the youngest 19, and the average age was 39. Three women were among those detained.
A video circulating on social media shows a man saying: "Keir Starmer needs to be assassinated" and "someone needs to shoot Keir Starmer." A Met spokesperson confirmed officers are investigating to identify the man. Speakers at the rally included Elon Musk via video link, who claimed a "dissolution of parliament" was needed, and former Reform UK deputy leader Ben Habib, alongside European far-right figures.
Hope Not Hate described the gathering as Britain's largest-ever far-right protest. Joe Mulhall, the group's director of research, said the messages from the stage represented a step change from previous far-right movements, with speakers calling for bans on non-Christian religious public expression and the "remigration" of legal migrants.
A smaller counter-protest by Stand Up to Racism estimated 15,000 to 20,000 participants, with some reportedly assaulted and hit by projectiles. Tommy Robinson, whose real name is Stephen Yaxley-Lennon, previously stood as a candidate in the 2019 European parliament elections, winning only 2.2% of the vote and losing his deposit.
