Liz Truss's forthcoming book, Bank Job, is set to be published next week, and it promises to be a short read. The book's subtitle, A Short Book on How the Bank of England Broke the Bond Market and Brought Down the Government, sets out its central argument.
The former prime minister's new title is described as being about a shadowy cabal that brought down the bond market. However, the book's cover, which features Truss alongside a group of tough-looking figures, has drawn comparisons to Danny Dyer's gangster films.
Book Details and Publisher
According to Amazon, Bank Job is just 99 pages long, making it considerably shorter than other notable works. It is published by Free Speech Press, which says it is dedicated to publishing books that challenge conventional thinking. The publisher's other authors include Jennifer Arcuri, who claimed she had an affair with Boris Johnson, and Mike Graham, known for a viral video about growing concrete.
Graham also owns UKLive, a YouTube channel that hosts Truss's show. Recent videos on the channel include titles such as "Why Britain's political system is completely broken," "Britain is becoming a LOW-TRUST society," and "Defund the BBC."
Public Reaction and Content
When Truss announced Bank Job on X, just six days before its publication date, responses included retitling the book as "Bankrupt" and "Lettuce Job." The book repeats the argument Truss has made since her time as prime minister: that the country is secretly run by the Bank of England, the Treasury, and the Office for Budget Responsibility, with this unelected cartel ensuring Britain will never change.
Given its length, the book has been described as a "toilet book," suitable for a pinch if one runs out of toilet paper. The central question remains whether Truss, who was prime minister during the bond market turmoil, is the right person to blame the Bank of England for what happened.
