Liz Truss has been savagely mocked on social media after she announced the release of her new book regarding her disastrous mini-budget. The former Prime Minister posted a link to pre-order her book 'Bank Job' on X but the responses were not what she might have hoped for.
The post of the book cover, that shows Truss sat at a desk in the style of the crime thriller film Reservoir Dogs, surrounded by men believed to be former Bank of England Governor Andrew Bailey, former Prime Minister Tony Blair, and former Prime Minister Gordon Brown, was edited by many.
Social Media Users Bring Back the Lettuce
Social media users were quick to bring back the iconic lettuce that outlasted Truss' time in Downing Street. One user renamed the book 'Lettuce Job', with the text 'how to outlast a lettuce'. One user even changed the title to 'w**k job'.
There was a savage reception to the book release. Truss' time as PM is the shortest in British History, with even the Star's lettuce lasting longer than her 45 days at Downing Street. Her time as PM ended after a controversial "mini-budget" of unfunded tax cuts proposed by her chancellor caused financial market instability, a drop in the British pound, widespread political fallout, and the loss of party support.
Book Details and Political Reactions
The "short book on how the Bank of England broke the bond market and brought down the government" after Truss' mini-Budget will coincide with the first Budget under Andy Burnham. Despite the economic disaster, Truss' new book tells an opposing tale of her downfall, elaborating on her argument that the "establishment" and Bank of England were to blame for the crisis.
The book is said to "lift the lid on what really happened around the Mini-Budget in 2022, challenging the establishment narrative and examining in particular the role of the unaccountable Bank of England". Politicians even hit back at the book, with her former trade policy minister Conor Burns mocking the release.
He wrote on X: "She is now an international embarrassment with zero self awareness." Another X user edited the book cover with the name "Whack Job", and posted the image with the caption: "A short book on how Liz Truss broke the bond market and a lettuce brought down the government."
Others added that the book would be downgraded to 'Poundland shelves' soon.
