Actor Jeff Daniels performed an acoustic protest song titled 'Crazy World' during an appearance on MSNBC's 'Deadline: White House' with host Nicole Wallace. The song, inspired by the No Kings protests against the Trump administration, serves as Daniels's way of coping with political turmoil. In the chorus, he sings, 'It's nice to know in a world full of hate, there's someone out there still making love,' highlighting moments of kindness amidst chaos.
Daniels, a long-time critic of former President Donald Trump, expressed hope that Trump voters are paying attention to whether the president is fulfilling campaign promises, particularly on lowering grocery costs. 'I think those who voted for him because they didn't like Kamala or don't like Democrats are paying attention to if things cost more,' Daniels said. He noted that if Trump fails to deliver on economic promises, voters may notice and seek change in the midterms.
Addressing Trump's controversial response to protests—an AI video depicting Trump flying over protesters and dropping excrement on them—Daniels remarked, 'Nixon wouldn't have done it, Reagan wouldn't have done it… neither Bush would've done it.' He emphasised that midwesterners value decency and civility, suggesting that if Trump does not improve the economy, such behaviour could sway voters.
Daniels has previously slammed Trump for using social media to bully others, stating, 'We've lost decency, we've lost civility, we've lost respect for the rule of law.' He added, 'We have normalized verbal abuse on the internet. We’ve normalized bullying.' The actor called Trump 'everything that’s wrong with not just America but with being a human being.'
