A 14-year-old girl has been charged with three counts of attempted murder following a triple stabbing at a school in north Manchester. The incident occurred on Tuesday at the Co-op Academy in Blackley, where two students and a staff member were attacked.
The suspect, who was arrested at the scene, has also been charged with two counts of possessing a bladed article on school premises. Police confirmed that she remains detained under the Mental Health Act.
The counter-terrorism unit is leading the investigation, though detectives have emphasised they are keeping an open mind as to the motivation. Superintendent David Meeney stated that there is no information to indicate any further threat to the public.
The victims – a 14-year-old boy, a 14-year-old girl, and a 27-year-old male staff member – sustained non-serious stab wounds and have since been discharged from hospital. Students were placed in lockdown while emergency services responded.
