Energy Secretary Miatta Fahnbulleh has been branded dull and dithering in a political sketch, following a press appearance in which she declined seven times to back the Home Secretary's immigration plans.
The sketch, written by Political Correspondent Aaron Newbury, describes the Energy Secretary as coming across "a little more Mrs Doyle and a little less Mrs T" as she greeted the press pack. Her handshake was described as "as limp as salad under a hot lamp."
Criticism Over Net Zero Spending
The sketch also criticises Fahnbulleh's record on net zero, noting that under her leadership the Left-wing New Economics Foundation demanded 5% of GDP be spent on net zero – more than Britain spends on its armed forces.
It references a quote from Fahnbulleh, who said, "You're the one who calls me an eco-zealot," in response to the sketch writer's earlier criticism.
Speech Described as 'Cold Porridge'
Fahnbulleh's speech was described as "cold porridge," with the sketch noting she tiptoed around the row and paused for a chuckle about her friend Andy Burnham, described as a fellow Oxbridge graduate and "certified ordinary bloke."
The sketch also highlights what it calls a contradictory position on fossil fuels, noting Fahnbulleh approved the Jackdaw gas field yet held firm against Rosebank.
During the question session, a staffer stepped into the eyeline of the sketch writer, preventing him from asking about indefinite leave to remain. The sketch concludes that expectations, as promised, were duly lowered.
