Senator Cory Booker has married Alexis Lewis, a real estate investor, in two ceremonies held less than three months after announcing their engagement. The New Jersey Democrat, 56, and Lewis, 38, were legally married on Monday at the federal courthouse in Newark, New Jersey, with their parents as witnesses.
On Saturday, the couple held an inter-faith ceremony in Washington D.C., featuring blessings from both a rabbi and a pastor, followed by a family-only reception honouring both faiths. Booker is a Christian and Lewis is Jewish. They announced their engagement on 2 September, with Booker describing Lewis as 'one of the greatest unearned blessings of my life'.
The couple met in May 2024 on a blind date arranged by a friend while Lewis was visiting family in Washington D.C. Their first date lasted five hours, and Booker immediately asked for another. Lewis is a director of investments at Brasa Capital Management, a real estate investment firm based in Los Angeles, and previously worked in economic policy under former Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti.
Booker, who has prioritised his career over relationships in the past, served as mayor of Newark from 2006 to 2013 and has been in the Senate since 2013. He previously dated actress Rosario Dawson for two years, ending in 2022.
