Home Secretary James Cleverly has launched a scathing attack on Nigel Farage, accusing the Reform UK leader of promoting "dangerous" rhetoric that threatens to undermine social cohesion in Britain.
In a strongly worded intervention, Cleverly claimed Farage's party was deliberately "stoking division" with its inflammatory language on immigration and other sensitive issues. The Cabinet minister warned such tactics risked "damaging the fabric of our communities".
Growing Political Tensions
The remarks come amid escalating tensions between the Conservatives and Farage's insurgent party, which has been gaining ground in recent polls. Reform UK has positioned itself as the standard-bearer for hardline positions on immigration and cultural issues.
Cleverly's intervention represents the most direct confrontation yet from a senior Conservative figure, reflecting growing concern within government about Reform UK's potential to split the right-wing vote.
Cleverly's Warning
The Home Secretary emphasised the need for "responsible leadership" in political debate, particularly on sensitive topics like immigration. "When politicians deliberately inflame tensions for short-term gain, everyone loses in the long run," he stated.
Political analysts suggest this marks a strategic shift as the Conservatives attempt to reclaim voters drawn to Reform UK's more radical positions while maintaining a moderate image.
