The family of a young father who died in a horrific car crash just three weeks after his son was born have spoken of their devastating loss, saying their 'whole world was ripped apart'.
Tragic Crash in Burton Pidsea
Callan Towle, 24, from Hull, was the front seat passenger in a car that hit a telegraph pole in Fieldsend Lane, Burton Pidsea, Holderness, on September 10, 2023. Two other passengers in the back seats were also injured in the collision.
The driver of the black VW Polo was cleared after a trial at Hull Crown Court of causing Mr Towle's death by careless driving, as well as causing serious injury to the two rear-seat passengers.
Court Details of the Incident
The prosecution alleged that the driver momentarily lost control of the vehicle while driving with three friends just before 8pm. The car was travelling on a wide left 'S' bend heading west out of Burton Pidsea on a 'windy country road' when it clipped the wing mirror of an oncoming car. The other driver had to swerve onto the grass verge to avoid the Polo, whose rear end went into the opposite lane before spinning and hitting a telegraph pole.
The force of the crash knocked down the pole. Mr Towle was taken to Hull Royal Infirmary but did not survive. Two rear seat passengers, one male and one female, suffered serious injuries.
Family's Heartfelt Tribute
In a statement, Mr Towle's family said: 'Callan was a much loved son, brother, uncle and daddy, and a friend to so many. He was kind, caring and brought so much warmth and laughter to those around him.
'Our whole world was ripped apart that night and he has left a huge Callan-shaped hole in all our hearts as well as in the hearts of our family and friends. After two-and-a-half years of pain and waiting, we can finally begin to grieve properly as a family.
'Nothing will ever make up for what we have really lost. He had been a daddy for three weeks when his life was taken. His little boy, Billy, will now grow up without ever knowing his amazing dad, something no child should have to face. We will carry Callan with us always and he will never be forgotten.'
