In a personal message shared on Kensington Palace's social media channels, William commended Sir Alex for his "integrity, courage, and an unwavering commitment to protecting this country and its people." Sir Alex led the Secret Intelligence Service, commonly known as MI6, from 2014 to 2020, serving under the codename "C," the traditional designation for the head of MI6.

William wrote: "I was saddened to hear of the death of Alex Younger. He embodied the very best of what the Secret Intelligence Service stands for – integrity, courage, and an unwavering commitment to protecting this country and its people. Britain has lost an exceptional public servant. My thoughts are with Lady Younger and their family. W"

In 2019, the Prince of Wales spent three weeks working alongside MI5, MI6, and GCHQ to gain insight into the operations of the UK's security and intelligence agencies. Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer also led tributes upon the announcement of Sir Alex's death on Wednesday, stating that he "led an exemplary life and career."
