Vanilla Ice has expressed excitement about performing at the Great American State Fair, a celebration marking the 250th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence, despite multiple artists withdrawing from the event over its ties to President Donald Trump.
Event Backed by Trump's Freedom 250 Initiative
The fair is organized by Freedom 250, a public-private partnership established by President Trump. Several high-profile artists, including Bret Michaels and Martina McBride, have pulled out of the concerts, citing political concerns.
Vanilla Ice's Stance
In a statement, Vanilla Ice said he is performing to celebrate America's anniversary and views music as a unifying, non-political force. He emphasized that he does not vote and dismissed the controversy, stating, "I'm here to party with America." He added that entertainers should not take such events too seriously and would perform for anyone.
Other Artists Withdraw
Young MC and Morris Day were among those who withdrew, claiming they were not initially informed of the event's political nature. They cited the Trump backing as a reason for their exit, stating they do not wish to be associated with partisan politics.
Despite the backlash, Vanilla Ice remains committed to the performance, focusing on the celebration rather than the political divisions surrounding it.
