The United Kingdom's Eurovision contestant, Sam Battle, known by his stage name Look Mum No Computer, was captured on camera sitting alone in the vast arena during the competition, a moment that deeply moved fans. The 37-year-old YouTube personality finished in last place, securing only a single point from Ukraine. His song and the UK ended up 515 points behind the winner, Bulgaria's Dara, after receiving no points from the public vote.
However, it was the image of Battle sitting by himself in the Eurovision green room, while other acts were surrounded by their teams, that garnered sympathy. He was seen on a semi-circular sofa, a crumpled Union Jack beside him, occasionally waving to viewers. Some observers accused the UK delegation of disrespecting their own act by leaving him isolated, with one describing the situation as shameful.
Fortunately, a video showed a member of the Danish delegation taking pity on Battle and inviting him to join them after the flag parade. Denmark was represented by Søren Torpegaard Lund, a 27-year-old musical theatre star. Battle was later seen surrounded by the Danish team, waving their flags.
One Eurovision fan expressed outrage, stating: "Sorry, but if I were Head of Delegation for the UK, I wouldn't have my act sitting alone at the top of the Jury show, having to be adopted by lovely Denmark. Thank you to the Danes. Sam, we support you."
Typically, acts are accompanied by songwriters, choreographers, and backstage staff. However, Battle is known for doing much of the work himself. Eurovision host Rylan Clark revealed that he found Battle making his own set during a break between shows, even declining assistance by saying, "It's alright mate, don't worry." Clark added: "He's made pretty much all of the set. Yesterday between both shows, he was on the main stage tinkering with his synthesiser because one of the lights wasn't working. I was like, 'Sam, you know we have people who can help you,' and he said, 'No, it's alright mate, don't worry.' It's incredible."
