Twelve people have been injured, six seriously, after a multi-vehicle pile-up in east London following a police chase in the early hours of Saturday morning.
Emergency Response
Emergency services were called to High Road in Goodmayes at 12:35 AM after reports of a collision involving a vehicle linked to a police pursuit. Police and paramedics attended the scene, treating several casualties and taking nine people to hospital. Six individuals are confirmed to have serious injuries, with one suffering potentially life-threatening injuries.
The exact number of vehicles involved remains unclear. The crash caused major disruption, with authorities urging the public to avoid the area while a cordon remains in place between Goodmayes Road and Eccleston Crescent.
Road Closures and Diversions
High Road was closed in both directions during the morning as officers conducted investigations and emergency crews worked at the scene. Bus routes 86 and N86 were diverted via Green Lanes, Whalebone Lane South, and London Road.
Investigation Underway
The Metropolitan Police are investigating the circumstances of the pursuit and subsequent collision. Officers will review CCTV, dashcam footage, and witness accounts.
A London Ambulance Service spokesperson confirmed they were called at 12:34 AM to a road traffic collision at the junction of Barley Lane and Goodmayes Road, Ilford. Resources deployed included ambulance crews, an incident response officer, a joint response unit, an advanced paramedic practitioner, members of the Hazardous Areas Response Team (HART), and London's air ambulance. Ten patients were treated at the scene, nine taken to hospital, and one declined further aid.
