Tom Holland has revealed that he insisted on changes to the production of the upcoming Spider-Man 4: Brand New Day after witnessing Christopher Nolan's efficient filmmaking style on the set of The Odyssey.
The 30-year-old actor, who plays Telemachus in Nolan's adaptation, told GQ that he had to 'lay down the law' with Sony and the film's producers, demanding that they approach the Spider-Man sequel with the same level of preparation. 'We are not going to come to set and figure it out,' Holland said, adding that he insisted on knowing the purpose behind making the film beyond commercial reasons.
Holland also revealed that he asked Sony to delay filming on Spider-Man 4 so he could participate in The Odyssey. The studio agreed, partly due to Nolan's reputation for staying on schedule. The delay allowed director Destin Daniel Cretton to further develop the script, which Holland described as 'the best version of any Spider-Man movie going'.
Holland praised Nolan's preparation as 'unlike anything I've ever seen', and said he constantly referenced Nolan's methods in conversations with the studio and producers. 'Chris is doing it this way. This is how I think we should be doing it,' he recalled telling them.
Spider-Man: Brand New Day is set to be the 'most emotional' and 'most grown-up' Spider-Man film yet, with Peter Parker leading a lonely life after a spell made the world forget his identity. Zendaya and Jacob Batalon will reprise their roles. The film is scheduled for release in July 2026.
