Rumours have been swirling that Tom Hardy has been fired from the Paramount+ series MobLand following reported clashes with cast and crew. According to Puck, Hardy left the set after disagreements, though Paramount has not yet greenlit a third series. The Hollywood Reporter claims Hardy demanded greater creative control, delivered script notes, arrived late, and isolated himself in his trailer for hours, keeping co-stars including Pierce Brosnan and Helen Mirren waiting.
However, Mirren posted a photo of Hardy on Instagram with the caption “Love you now and always”, suggesting no lasting rift. Hardy has a history of being considered difficult on set. During Mad Max: Fury Road, tensions with Charlize Theron reportedly escalated to near physical confrontation. Patrick Stewart wrote in his memoir that Hardy was aloof and unsocial during Star Trek: Nemesis.
On Lawless, Hardy reportedly fought with Shia LaBeouf, though the director later downplayed it as a playful wrestle. While filming The Revenant, Hardy had T-shirts made showing him in a headlock with director Alejandro González Iñárritu after a fight. Despite these incidents, Iñárritu called Hardy “a beautiful human being”.
Hardy is widely considered the best element of MobLand, providing charm and momentum. Without him, the show risks losing its centre of gravity. If recommissioned—given it was Paramount+’s biggest launch—producers face a painful choice: let Hardy go or recalibrate without him.
