The guest, who is single, told the Daily Mail that she was not allowed to bring a friend, leading her to consider declining the invitation.
The guest expressed discomfort at attending alone, saying: "What am I supposed to do? Go alone? That is so awkward. I don't think I am going to attend because I don't want to go by myself and I am not sure I will know too many people there." She added that she is not friends with celebrities like Gigi and Bella Hadid, who are likely to be present.
Wedding etiquette experts, however, suggest that Swift's decision may be defensible. According to Emily Post's Wedding Etiquette, spouses, fiancés, and live-in partners should be invited, but casual partners or friends for single guests are not mandatory. British Vogue advises that if one single guest is allowed a plus-one, then all should be, but Swift appears to have applied a consistent policy.
