A 20-year-old man wanted in connection with the shooting of Missouri football star Ahmad Hardy at an outdoor concert in Mississippi has been apprehended.
Arrest Made in Paducah, Kentucky
Rashodrick Harris, a resident of Wayne County, Mississippi, was taken into custody in Paducah, Kentucky, on Thursday night and is awaiting extradition, according to Sgt. Macon Davis of the Laurel Police Department.
Hardy, an All-American running back and Doak Walker Award finalist for the Tigers, sustained a gunshot wound to the upper leg on Sunday while attending a concert at a biker club in Laurel, approximately 90 minutes from his hometown of Oma. At least one other individual was injured in the incident.
The football star underwent surgery in Mississippi and returned to Columbia, Missouri, on Wednesday.
Charges Filed
Harris will face two counts of aggravated assault, Davis confirmed. The investigation remains ongoing, and additional arrests are possible, he added.
Three other individuals of interest who were initially taken into custody have been released without charges, Davis said.
Investigation Details
Laurel police utilized security video footage to identify Harris as a suspect, and an arrest warrant was issued following an interview with a witness. Davis stated he was unaware of why Harris was in Paducah, which is a seven-hour drive from Laurel.
Missouri head coach Eli Drinkwitz indicated that Hardy's status for the upcoming season is uncertain. Hardy rushed for 1,649 yards—second in the FBS—and scored 16 touchdowns, leading the Tigers to an 8-5 record, including a loss to Virginia in the Gator Bowl.
Several NFL mock drafts already project the 5-foot-10, 205-pound Hardy as the top running back available in next April's draft.
