The heir to the Singha beer empire in Thailand has been dismissed from his position after his British brother accused him of a prolonged campaign of sexual abuse. Sunit 'Pi' Scott, a scion of the Bhirombhakdi family that controls the iconic Thai beer brand, faced allegations from his younger brother, Siranudh Scott, who posted a tearful video detailing abuse that occurred between the ages of 12 and 24 in their family mansions.
Brother's Accusations and Family Response
Siranudh, 29, publicly denounced his family, claiming they were aware of the abuse after he played them a recorded confession from Sunit but chose to ignore it. The parent company, Boonrawd Brewery, announced Sunit's termination. In the video, Siranudh stated, 'I don't want to stay in a family that doesn't value me or have empathy for me. I can't live with this kind of people.' He also released an audio recording of an apparent confession, which has generated significant media attention in Thailand.
Audio Recording Details
In the recording, Siranudh confronts Sunit, saying, 'What you did to me, forcing me to give you a blowjob, many times over the years, when you were 14 or 16. Pi, that affected me.' A voice, allegedly Sunit's, responds, 'I don't even know what I'm doing, to be honest. I'm just like a child who doesn't know what they're doing.'
Company Action and Resignation
Sunit initially denied the allegations, calling them 'not true' and 'deeply unsettling,' but acknowledged 'rough' play during their youth. However, their cousin Bhurit Bhirombhakdi, CEO of the parent company and one of Thailand's wealthiest individuals, sided with Siranudh. He signed a letter terminating Sunit and expressed 'deepest regret' to Siranudh, while cooperating with authorities. Sunit also submitted a resignation letter, stating, 'In order to ensure fairness for all parties, I hereby resign from my duties as an employee and executive... until the matter is clarified and conclusively proved.'
Background on the Family
The Bhirombhakdi family is ranked as Thailand's 15th richest by Forbes, with an estimated net worth of £1.3 billion ($1.75 billion). Their business interests extend beyond Singha Beer to include food manufacturing, hotels, power, and property. Siranudh, whose father is Scottish, is a marine conservationist and founder of the group Sea You Strong, active in southern Thailand's seas.
