Shoplifter Steals Mini Eggs Display in £4,000 Rampage

A man has been sentenced to prison following a shoplifting spree that included stealing an entire display of Mini Eggs from a Tesco supermarket. Ashley Daley, 39, targeted stores across Cardiff, Taff's Well, Merthyr Tydfil, Chepstow, and Caldicot, accumulating £4,000 in stolen goods over three weeks.

Brazen Thefts Captured on CCTV

According to a South Wales Police spokesperson, Daley made no effort to conceal his identity during his crimes. He would walk into supermarkets and fill bags with meat, Easter eggs, and alcohol, causing significant financial losses for the businesses. In one instance, he took an entire display of Mini Eggs, all while being recorded by store security cameras.

Arrest and Discovery of Weapon

Police stopped Daley in a vehicle on February 21, shortly after he committed a theft. Upon arrest, officers found a kitchen knife in his possession. During his police interview, Daley appeared irritated, kept his hands in his tracksuit pockets, and responded "no comment" to questions about his offending.

Guilty Plea and Sentence

Daley pleaded guilty to 12 counts of theft, one count of attempted theft, and one count of possession of a bladed article. He has been sentenced to four months in prison. CCTV footage occasionally showed a female accomplice assisting Daley, but South Wales Police have not confirmed any investigation into her involvement.

Police Statement

Detective Constable Warriner, the investigating officer, stated that Daley had also been shoplifting in the West Midlands. "Daley is a prolific offender who was brazen in his actions across the country, showing a clear disregard for the law and believing himself above it," said DC Warriner. "Shoplifting is not a victimless crime, and offenders like Daley have a big financial impact on businesses, and emotional impact on those who work there. Daley would have continued targeting businesses across the UK and I am glad to see that he has now been prevented from doing so."
