Russell Brand Faces Two New Sex Charges: Rape and Sexual Assault
Russell Brand charged with two further sexual offences

Comedian and actor Russell Brand has been hit with two additional sexual offence charges, including a further count of rape, as the legal case against him expands.

New Allegations from 2009

On Tuesday 23 December 2025, the Metropolitan Police and Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) announced the new charges. Brand, 50, now faces one count of rape and one count of sexual assault in relation to two further women. The CPS stated these alleged offences took place in 2009.

He is scheduled to appear at Westminster Magistrates’ Court on 20 January 2026 to answer these latest charges. This development adds to the five original charges he already denies.

Ongoing Investigation and Support

Detective Chief Inspector Tariq Farooqi, the Metropolitan Police officer leading the investigation, emphasised the continued support for the women involved. "The women who have made reports, including those connected to the two new charges, continue to receive support from specially-trained officers," he said.

He urged anyone else affected or with information to come forward, directing them to a dedicated investigative team via email at CIT@met.police.uk. Support is also available through the independent charity Rape Crisis and its 24/7 support line.

Details of the Original Five Charges

Brand had previously been charged with two counts of rape, one count of indecent assault, and two counts of sexual assault. These relate to alleged incidents between 1999 and 2005 involving four women, which he denied at Southwark Crown Court earlier this year.

A trial for these original five charges is scheduled to begin at Southwark Crown Court. Details heard in court in May included accusations that Brand:

  • Raped a woman in a hotel room during a Labour Party conference in Bournemouth.
  • Dragged a TV worker into a male toilet, grabbed her breasts, and orally raped her.
  • Grabbed a radio station worker’s face, pushed her against a wall, kissed her, and groped her breasts and buttocks.
  • Indecently assaulted another woman after grabbing her forearm and trying to drag her into a male toilet.

The initial investigation was triggered by reports from Channel 4 and The Sunday Times, in which several women came forward with allegations against the comedian, who lives in Oxfordshire.
