A harrowing video has captured the moment a White House correspondent froze and dived for cover as gunfire erupted outside the executive mansion. The incident unfolded when a man approached a security checkpoint, pulled a weapon from his bag, and began firing at officers. Police returned fire, striking the suspect, who later died at a hospital.
Suspect Identified
The gunman has been identified as Nasire Best, 21, who, according to former President Donald Trump, had a 'violent history'. The attack sent shockwaves through the White House complex, prompting an immediate lockdown that lasted approximately one hour.
Journalist's Ordeal
Senior White House correspondent for ABC News, Selina Wang, was in the middle of recording a social video on her iPhone from the North Lawn when the shots rang out. In footage shared on social media, Wang can be seen speaking about Trump's earlier remarks on a potential Iran deal before her eyes widen in fear. She then quickly ducks for cover inside the media tent on the White House driveway.
Recounting the terrifying experience, Wang said: 'I was in the middle of taping on my iPhone for a social video from the White House North Lawn when we heard the shots. It sounded like dozens of gunshots. We were told to sprint to the press briefing room where we are holding now.'
The shooting occurred around 6pm on Saturday, with other journalists also present at the time. Photos from inside the building showed reporters locked inside, peering through windows at the Secret Service response.
The White House lockdown was lifted after an hour, and no other injuries were reported. The investigation into the incident is ongoing.
