Rebekah Vardy has described feeling 'violated' and 'on edge 24/7' after armed raiders broke into her family home in Italy, stealing jewellery and watches worth £80,000. The incident occurred in November last year while she and her husband, footballer Jamie Vardy, were at a match.
In the ITV documentary series The Vardys, the couple are seen returning to their Lake Garda villa to discover the burglary. CCTV footage shows five masked men armed with crowbars entering the property and rifling through wardrobes. Rebekah said: 'I could sense that something wasn't right... I feel totally violated, you know, the thought of someone being in your house and going through your stuff.'
The ordeal has also cast doubt on Jamie Vardy's future playing abroad. After a difficult stint with Italian club Cremonese, who were relegated, he is now considering offers from English clubs such as Sheffield Wednesday, Hull City and Wrexham. The family's experience in Italy, including the burglary, has made them reluctant to move again.
Rebekah added: 'We could be packing up and leaving all over again. I just can't think of that at the minute. My anxiety will tip me over the edge.' The three-part series The Vardys is available to stream on ITVX.
