Police Disperse Celtic Fans Amid Disorder After Title Win

Police have dispersed crowds in Glasgow's Trongate area following what they described as "disorder" after Celtic fans gathered to celebrate their Scottish Premiership title victory. Hundreds of supporters congregated in the area to mark their team's 3-1 win over Hearts at Parkhead.

Police Statement on Disorder

A statement from Police Scotland said: "Police are dealing with disorder in the Trongate area of Glasgow. Officers went into the crowd to assist with a medical emergency and were faced with significant levels of hostility, with bottles and other missiles thrown at them. Police are now taking decisive action to disperse the crowds. For public safety reasons, all members of the public are being asked to leave the area."

Celebrations and Police Presence

Following the final whistle, streets around the stadium filled with green and white as fans left the ground. Hearts players required an escort off the pitch as thousands of Celtic supporters spilled onto the field. A large police presence was evident, and several roads near the Trongate were closed in anticipation of the celebrations.

Earlier, police had accused Celtic of failing to put plans in place for official celebrations after the William Hill Premiership concluded. A senior officer noted that policing plans around the potential celebrations led to rest days being cancelled for officers. However, Glasgow City Council disputed this characterisation of the club's approach. Celtic had urged fans to avoid gathering in the city centre after the game and asked supporters to be mindful of the wider community.
