Great British Bake Off judge Paul Hollywood has appealed for witnesses after his brother was allegedly punched to the floor and kicked in the face in a “nasty” attack in Wirral. The incident occurred at around 7.10pm on Friday, August 8, on Links View Playing Fields in Leasowe, near Shackleton Road.
According to Merseyside Police, the victim, a man in his 50s, was walking his dog when it began barking at another dog being walked by a second male. The dogs were separated by the other male, who reportedly became irate. As the victim walked away, he was approached from behind, punched to the floor, and then kicked in the face and back before the assailant fled.
The victim suffered injuries to his back and face and was taken to hospital for treatment. Police have launched an investigation and are appealing for witnesses or anyone with CCTV footage to come forward.
Paul Hollywood, who has 670,000 Instagram followers, shared a video of the police appeal, confirming the victim was his brother Lee. In a post, he wrote: “If you have information regarding this attack on Friday night, the person in question who was attacked is my brother Lee. Any information please follow details above Thankyou.”
Detective Inspector Phil Ryan described the assault as “nasty and unprovoked” and urged anyone in the area at the time to contact police. Information can be reported via Merseyside Police’s social media channels, website, or anonymously through Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
