Gary Neville has demanded that Tottenham Hotspur's players issue an apology to the club's supporters following what he described as a 'disgraceful' season. The former Manchester United defender made his comments immediately after Joao Palhinha's first-half goal secured a 1-0 victory over Everton at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, ensuring Premier League safety for the north London club.
Neville's Verdict on Tottenham's Performance
Speaking after the final whistle, Neville did not hold back in his criticism of the Tottenham squad. 'They made today as comfortable as they could possibly do. Roberto De Zerbi has got them over the line,' he said. 'If I were those Tottenham players who have been an absolute disgrace this last three months, they should be heading around this stadium and apologising to the Tottenham fans en masse because they come here every single week those fans, 60,000 every week to this great ground and this great club and they've been underserved.'
A Season of Struggle
Tottenham's campaign has been fraught with inconsistency, leaving them flirting with relegation until the final home game. The win over Everton provided a lifeline, but Neville believes the players owe a debt of gratitude to the supporters who have remained loyal throughout the turbulence. 'At least they have a time now, Tottenham can reset in the summer, decide who they want on the bus, who they want off the bus knowing that they will at least have Premier League football and their fans can go home easy tonight,' he added.
