MTG Claps Back at Trump Over 'Low IQ' Attack on Candace Owens
MTG Claps Back at Trump Over Owens Attack

Former Representative Marjorie Taylor Greene has fired back at President Donald Trump over his latest attack on Candace Owens, accusing the commander in chief of harboring animosity toward women he cannot dominate. The controversy erupted on Friday after Trump shared a doctored Time magazine cover on Truth Social, labeling Owens, a conservative conspiracy theorist, as the “Vile Person of the Year.” He also described her criticism of France’s first lady as “despicable” and added, without verification, that she is an “extremely low IQ individual.”

Greene’s Response on Social Media

Hours after Trump’s post, Greene, who resigned from Congress in January amid a falling out with the president, took to X to address the remarks. She wrote, “President Trump hates women he can’t control, who don’t worship him, women who actually worship God, and are much more intelligent than he is. Women like @RealCandaceO.” Greene further accused Trump of echoing far-right activist Laura Loomer’s influence and criticized him for targeting Owens and political commentator Megyn Kelly while refusing to support victims of convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein.

Pattern of Attacks on Conservative Women

Greene’s comments highlight a pattern in which Trump has recently attacked prominent conservative figures—many of them women—who have broken with him. On Truth Social, he has repeatedly called critics like Kelly and Owens “low IQ,” “nut jobs,” and “losers.” Greene also noted that the only cabinet members Trump has fired or pushed out are women, naming Kristi Noem, Pam Bondi, and Lori Chavez-DeRemer. She added that Trump appointed Elise Stefanik as UN ambassador only to rescind the offer at the urging of others, despite her unwavering support.

“No matter what you think about any of us women as we are all different from each other, whether you like us or not, one thing is incredibly clear, Trump hates women,” Greene continued. “And posts like this one is going to turn the majority of women in America against him.”

Broader Fallout with Conservative Allies

Like Owens and Greene, Megyn Kelly—once a Trump ally who endorsed him in 2024—has become a vocal critic, particularly over his handling of the 2026 Iran conflict. Trump has publicly questioned her alignment with the MAGA movement. While his most personal attacks have targeted female commentators, he has also gone after other MAGA-aligned figures, including Tucker Carlson and Alex Jones.

Earlier this month, Trump escalated tensions by blasting Carlson, Kelly, Owens, and Jones in a single Truth Social post amid growing criticism of his Iran policy, including calls from Owens and Jones for his removal from office. “They have one thing in common, Low IQs,” Trump said of the four media figures. “They’re stupid people, they know it, their families know it, and everyone else knows it, too!”

The Independent has contacted White House representatives for comment.
