Freshly disclosed correspondence from the files of convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein appears to show Ghislaine Maxwell seeking "intelligent, pretty and fun" women for a friend referred to as "Andrew" ahead of a trip to Peru. The emails, part of a new tranche of documents released by the US Department of Justice, add another layer to the long-running scandal surrounding the disgraced financier and his associates.
The 'Two-Legged Sightseeing' Request
In a message dated 3 March 2002, Maxwell contacted a connection in Peru to help plan a visit for a person saved in her contacts as "the Invisible Man". She made a specific request for "two-legged sightseeing" to ensure her friend would be "very happy". Elaborating in the email, Maxwell wrote: "Some sight seeing some 2 legged sight seeing (read intelligent pretty fun and from good families) and he will be very happy."
She added that she knew she could rely on the contact to show him a wonderful time and to "only introduce him to friends that you can trust and rely on to be friendly and discreet and fun." The recipient of the forwarded email was Juanesteban Ganoza, who was to act as a tour guide. In his reply, Mr Ganoza queried, "About the girls … how old is he? I doubt it that he will find someone here, but we can try."
The 'Invisible Man' and the Peru Trip
The identity of "the Invisible Man" is not explicitly confirmed in the documents. However, the released emails show the individual used addresses 'abx17@dial.pipex.com' and 'aace@dial.pipex.com'. One message from August 2001 is signed off "A xxx" and refers to being at "Balmoral Summer Camp for the Royal Family."
This aligns with the timeline of a six-day trip to Peru taken by the then Prince Andrew in March 2002, reportedly to celebrate his mother's Golden Jubilee. The newly published correspondence includes the 'Invisible Man' responding to the itinerary, stating, "I am overwhelmed at the kindness and generosity of the offers that are being made for me." Regarding the arrangements for female company, he added, "As for girls well I leave that entirely to you and Juan Estoban!" There is no suggestion within the files that any illegal activity occurred during this visit.
Broader Fallout and Legal Requests
The email disclosures emerge as the US Department of Justice has officially requested the UK government compel Andrew to answer questions regarding his relationships with both Jeffrey Epstein and another accused sex offender, Peter Nygard. A formal "Request for Assistance" states there is "evidence that Prince Andrew engaged in sexual conduct involving one of Epstein's victims."
Andrew has consistently denied any wrongdoing. His association with Epstein, however, led King Charles to strip him of his remaining royal titles and military affiliations earlier this year. He also faces being evicted from his 30-room Royal Lodge residence in Windsor.
The latest document release, comprising around 8,000 pages, also contains references to other high-profile figures. An email from a New York prosecutor notes that flight records indicate Donald Trump travelled on Epstein's private jet more frequently than previously known, including on one 1993 flight with just Epstein and a then-20-year-old woman.
Among the thousands of files are also photographs, including one showing Andrew, dressed in black tie, lying across the laps of five women, with Ghislaine Maxwell visible in the background. The context of the image remains unclear.
