Officials from the US Department of Justice have interviewed Ghislaine Maxwell, the former associate of Jeffrey Epstein, as pressure mounts on the Trump administration to disclose more details about the disgraced financier's case. Maxwell's lawyer said she answered every question put to her during the meeting on Thursday in Tallahassee, Florida.
Deputy Attorney General Todd Blanche spent the day questioning Maxwell at the office of the US attorney, with further talks scheduled for Friday. Her attorney, David Markus, stated that his client co-operated fully, answering all questions truthfully and without invoking any legal privilege.
Maxwell is currently serving a 20-year sentence for sex trafficking and related crimes at a federal prison in Florida, following her conviction in New York in 2021. Her brother, Ian Maxwell, claimed she had prepared new evidence that could have significantly affected the outcome of her trial, which she intended to present to the court.
The interview comes amid growing political scrutiny, with the House oversight committee voting 8-2 to subpoena the justice department for Epstein-related files. The department had previously announced it would not release further documents despite earlier promises by President Trump and Attorney General Pam Bondi.
Mark Epstein, Jeffrey Epstein's brother, suggested in an interview that his sibling had claimed to possess damaging information about Donald Trump. The Wall Street Journal reported that Trump was informed his name appears multiple times in the justice department's Epstein files, though a White House spokesperson denied the story.
