Police have raided two funeral homes in Lancashire, arresting a man and a woman on suspicion of fraud by false representation. The searches were conducted at Martin’s Funeral Directors branches in Ashton-on-Ribble and Longridge, as well as a private address in Fulwood, Preston.
A man in his 60s and a woman in her 50s, both from Preston, were detained and remain in custody for questioning. The operation involved forensic officers and a dog unit, with a significant police presence at the Tulketh Brow site in Ashton-on-Ribble on Tuesday afternoon.
Lancashire Police stated that the raids followed reports received earlier this month regarding concerns about certain practices at Martin’s Funeral Directors. A force spokesperson said: “We appreciate that reading about this may cause concern but while enquiries remain at this early stage it would be inappropriate to comment any further.”
The investigation is ongoing, and police have appealed for anyone with information or concerns to contact them on 101, quoting log 0212 of April 28.
