The body of a man found beside an abandoned utility vehicle approximately 50 kilometres north-west of Lake Cargelligo is believed to be that of a gunman suspected of killing his pregnant former partner and two others in remote New South Wales earlier this year.
Manhunt Concludes
A large-scale search for 37-year-old Julian Ingram has been ongoing since late January, when he allegedly shot Sophie Quinn, her new boyfriend, and her aunt in Lake Cargelligo, a town roughly 450 kilometres west of Sydney. Ingram was last seen driving a Ford Ranger ute bearing council markings from the town on 22 January.
Police released a statement confirming that a man's body, understood to be Ingram, was discovered next to an abandoned ute in the area. Assistant Police Commissioner Andrew Holland is scheduled to address the media at 5:30 pm local time.
Background of the Case
The incident shocked the small community of Lake Cargelligo. Sophie Quinn, who was pregnant at the time of her death, was killed alongside her new partner and her aunt. The motive for the shooting remains under investigation, though authorities have not ruled out domestic violence as a factor.
Ingram had been the subject of a widespread manhunt, with police appealing for public assistance to locate him. The discovery of the body brings the search to a close, though formal identification is still pending.
