Josh Widdicombe Emerges as Surprise Favourite to Host Strictly Come Dancing

Comedian Josh Widdicombe has reportedly become the frontrunner to host the next series of Strictly Come Dancing, after impressing BBC producers with his audition. The news comes following the departure of long-time hosts Tess Daly and Claudia Winkleman, who announced their exit in a joint statement last year.

According to a source, Widdicombe's deadpan wit and family-friendly appeal have made him a standout candidate. 'Josh blew the producers away with his dead-pan, witty banter. He is family friendly, having helmed several shows now, and loves Strictly,' the source told The Sun. 'The bosses believe he will be ideal to take the show into a new era.'

If appointed, Widdicombe would become the first male host since Sir Bruce Forsyth left the programme. Other names rumoured to be in the running include Zoe Ball, Rylan Clark, and Angela Scanlon, but Widdicombe is now considered the favourite.

Alan Carr, another name linked to the role, has publicly ruled himself out, stating he did not turn down the job but asked not to be considered. 'I love watching Strictly, but I don’t love it enough,' Carr told The Telegraph. 'Wouldn’t it be amazing to give it to a young person who absolutely adores Strictly and dancing?'
