The NASCAR community is in mourning once again after the death of Indianapolis 500 driver Rick Treadway, who passed away at the age of 56. Fox Sports confirmed the news on Monday afternoon, revealing that Treadway died following a motorcycle accident on May 30.
This tragic event comes just weeks after the passing of NASCAR legend Kyle Busch, who died at 41 due to pneumonia complicated by sepsis.
Treadway competed in the 2002 Indianapolis 500, where he started 17th and finished 29th in the No. 5 Sprint/Kyocera Wireless/Airlink Enterprises G Force/Chevrolet. The car was fielded by his father Fred Treadway’s team, and he was a teammate to two-time Indy 500 winner Arie Luyendyk.
Luyendyk was among the first to pay tribute, writing on X: 'Sad news hearing Rick Treadway passed away last Saturday. Our condolences go out to my former @IndyCar team owner Fred Treadway, Janice and Brian Treadway. Rick was a fun, crazy, humble, wild and brave personality! RIP Ricky. We are thinking of you Treadway family.'
More details are expected to follow.
