Pep Guardiola has remained coy regarding his future at Manchester City, choosing not to confirm widespread reports of his departure after Arsenal clinched the Premier League title.
Speaking to Sky Sports, Guardiola said: “I could say I have one more year of contract. I’m in a position I’ve had for many many years. It’s always from my experience, when you announce during the competition, it’s a bad result.”
He added: “The first person I have to talk to is my chairman. We decide when we finish the season, we’ll see and we’ll talk. It’s as simple as that and after that we’ll take the decision. I will not tell you here because I have to talk with my chairman, my players and my staff.”
Guardiola also expressed his happiness at the club: “I'm the happiest man in the planet to be in this club, this club is just extraordinary.”
The Catalan spoke after City’s 1-1 draw at Bournemouth, which handed the Premier League title to Arsenal for the first time in 22 years. The result ended City’s hopes of a fifth consecutive league crown.
Arsenal secured their first top-flight title since 2004 with two games to spare, sparking celebrations across north London. Guardiola’s future now dominates headlines, with reports suggesting he may leave the Etihad after eight trophy-laden seasons.
When pressed on whether he would remain at City, Guardiola deflected: “We have time. Now is not the moment. The season ends, we talk, and then we decide.”
City’s draw at the Vitality Stadium saw them finish second, 10 points behind Arsenal, who have dominated the campaign under Mikel Arteta.
