Former congresswoman Marjorie Taylor Greene has declared that the Republican Party's future has been 'destroyed' following the primary defeat of Representative Thomas Massie, attributing his loss to the push for releasing files related to Jeffrey Epstein.
Massie lost his primary in Kentucky's 4th congressional district to retired Navy SEAL Ed Gallrein, a candidate endorsed by President Donald Trump. Trump celebrated the outcome, saying, 'We won the Massie thing. He was a bad guy. He deserved to lose.'
Greene posted on X that Massie was 'a giant among weak pathetic men' and claimed that 'releasing the Epstein files was our demise.' She argued that the primary results signal a permanent fracture within the party, adding, 'The Real America First Movement will rise led by the younger generations.'
Massie had worked with Democrat Ro Khanna to force a vote on the Epstein Transparency Act, which passed with near-unanimous support. The friction with the White House over the law's implementation led to a concerted campaign to unseat him, including a visit from Defence Secretary Pete Hegseth.
Despite his loss, Massie defended the legislative efforts, noting that within six months the act had led to action against 'two dozen CEOs, an ambassador, a prince, a prime minister, a minister of culture.' White House communications director Steven Cheung highlighted Trump's political power, stating that 'Donald Trump is the general of the Republican Party.'
